The iconic VW Beetle has been around for ages and in its current version is set for another timeless push forward.
Strength: Nice retro styling, modern engine and DSG gearbox, infotainment system and fun to drive
Weakness: space in back seats, quality of interior finishing and price
Our view: A fun car for the more outspoken or excentric among us. Other than the engine and safety features, the rest is not spectacular and considering the competition is Fiat 500, Mini and Citroen DS-3, the Beetle has a hard time proving itself. However, if that's no issue to you, there may be some good bargains in the market as VW Malaysia is said to phase out the Beetle. As you still get the German giant to service and support you, it is certainly worth considering.
Not at all! The cramped back seats have Isofix connections, though you'll be quite an acrobat if you manage to install a child seat before you get agitated.. Having said that, there is some space for luggage in the trunk but babies cannot sit there, unfortunately. Most people will buy this car simply for its looks and that's it, no other considerations are made. Road tax is cheap though and the driving is not too bad. You'll actually have some fun with the stiff chassis and excellent driver position.
